Spain allocates record €465 million for public‑housing contracts in Q1 2026

The Spanish government announced that public‑housing contracts totalled €465.1 million in the first quarter of 2026, marking a 44 % rise over the same period a year earlier and the strongest start since records began in 2008. The surge stems from a substantial increase in the Ministry of Housing’s budget, which has been multiplied eight‑fold and is supported by the Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan and other state housing programmes.

At this pace, officials expect total public‑housing licences to exceed €1 billion for 2026, a level not reached since 2008. The broader State Housing Plan for 2026‑2030 foresees €7 billion in investment, with at least 40 % earmarked for permanent affordable and protected dwellings. The €465 million tranche is projected to fund roughly 4,600 new homes, with construction typically taking 18‑24 months, meaning the impact should become visible from late 2027 onward.
