Spain and Dominican Republic mobilize resources to combat forest fires

In Castilla y León, Spain, the regional fire‑prevention agency (Infocal) has deployed 90 aerial and ground units and over 400 professionals to tackle 18 forest fires sparked by a heat wave and lightning on the night of 24‑25 June. Twelve of those fires remain active in the province of León, while authorities anticipate improving conditions as temperatures fall and humidity rises.

In the Dominican Republic, firefighters from several municipalities are working to contain a blaze that broke out on Saturday in the El Codo sector of Sierra de Bahoruco National Park. About 70 % of the affected area has been controlled, with the fire now limited to a single front. Officials expect to finish containment in the coming days and then move to the liquidation phase.

Both countries are monitoring weather conditions and continuing public information campaigns to limit further damage to the affected ecosystems.
