Spain and EU Secure Funding for First European AI Gigafactory
Spain's Council of Ministers approved a voluntary €300 million contribution to the European High‑Performance Computing Joint Undertaking (EuroHPC), strengthening the country's bid to host one of the EU's first AI gigafactories. The investment builds on Spain's existing supercomputing facilities and aims to boost domestic AI research, attract private investment and enhance European technological sovereignty.
In parallel, the companies TensorX and Solstice announced a partnership to create a financing facility with up to $1 billion in capacity for AI hardware and data‑centre capacity across the EU. The arrangement also launches aiUSX, a yield‑bearing on‑chain asset that allows companies to put idle AI‑related cash to work by funding infrastructure lending. Both initiatives illustrate a coordinated push to develop sovereign AI infrastructure within Europe and reduce dependence on foreign cloud and compute providers.
