Spain and Mexico launch animal sterilization and vaccination initiatives

Various regions in Spain and Mexico are implementing programs to control pet populations and prevent diseases through sterilization and vaccination campaigns.

In the Valencian Community, Spain, the regional government has launched subsidies totaling 1.15 million euros. Of this, 800,000 euros are allocated to non-profit entities for veterinary services, including vaccination, deworming, and sterilization. An additional 350,000 euros will fund biodiversity conservation projects to reduce wildlife mortality. Grants for animal protection can reach up to 24,000 euros per entity.

In Mexico City, the Michi Fest 2026 will host a free sterilization day for cats on September 30, 2026, at the Santa Cruz Meyehualco Recreational Park in the Iztapalapa borough. To participate, cats must be between 6 months and 6 years old, clinically healthy, and not currently in heat, pregnant, or nursing. Owners are required to provide vaccination records and ensure animals have fasted for six hours.
