Spain approves Dependency Law 2026 with increased funding

The Spanish Congress of Deputies has approved a reform of the Dependency and Disability laws, known as the Dependency Law 2026. The reform includes a significant increase in state funding, with an additional 6.2 billion euros allocated between 2026 and 2027. The goal is for the state to assume 50% of the system's financing by 2027.

The new legislation shifts the care model away from residential facilities toward home-based and community care. It also aims to reduce bureaucracy through a ‘single window’ system to streamline applications for support.

Financial increases for recognized dependency levels have already begun as of July 1, 2026. Monthly state transfers to autonomous communities have increased for all grades: Grade I rises from 76 to 90 euros; Grade II from 130 to 260 euros; and Grade III from 290 to 660 euros.
