Spain approves major upgrade of N-430 road corridor
Spain's Ministry of Transport and Sustainable Mobility has provisionally approved an informative study to overhaul the N-430 highway between Santa Amalia in Extremadura and Ciudad Real in Castilla‑La Mancha. The project, slated to cover about 201 km in 12 sections, carries an estimated budget of €952 million and will transform the current road into a high‑performance 2+1 lane configuration, with space reserved for a future conversion to a full autovía.
The upgrade aims to improve road safety, traffic flow and the link between the two autonomous communities, responding to long‑standing complaints from motorists, transport firms and local municipalities. Despite the study's approval, the advocacy group Plataforma N‑430, represented by Herrera del Duque mayor Saturnino Alcázar, continues to press for an immediate conversion of the corridor into a full autovía, describing it as the "definitive solution" to the region's mobility challenges.
