Spain bans raves and camping for August eclipse, Netherlands bans consumer fireworks

Spain's regional government in Aragón approved an emergency decree prohibiting raves, open fires and access to mountainous areas from August 10‑13 around the solar eclipse, citing extreme fire risk from an expected 400,000 visitors. Similar restrictions were also imposed in Castilla y León, the Canary Islands and parts of the Pyrenees. Violations can be fined up to €100,000.

In the Netherlands, a nationwide ban on consumer fireworks (category F2) took effect on August 1, preventing private purchase, possession or use of most fireworks during the upcoming New Year celebrations. Light sparklers (category F1) remain allowed, while professional displays and carbidschieten are subject to local permits. Municipalities, such as those in the Achterhoek region, will determine any local exemptions.

Both measures aim to reduce fire hazards, injuries and public disorder by limiting large‑scale gatherings and hazardous activities during high‑risk periods.
