Spain battles forest fires in Vinuesa and Cáceres

A forest fire broke out near Vinuesa in the Soria province of Castilla y León on Wednesday afternoon. Declared at 15:52, the blaze burned about five hectares of pine forest. By 20:13 it was classified as stabilized, with 21 firefighting units on scene and additional aerial and ground support from five other provinces (La Rioja, Burgos, Madrid, Guadalajara and Segovia). Work continued through the night to fully control and monitor the fire.

In the early hours of the same day a separate fire ignited in the northern part of Cáceres, Extremadura. Reported shortly after 05:15, the blaze consumed roughly four hectares of grassland and riparian woodland between Mejostilla, Cáceres el Viejo and the Gredos residential area. Three fire‑engine trucks and two all‑terrain vehicles were deployed, and the fire was fully contained after about two hours, aided by light southwest winds that limited its spread toward nearby homes.
