Spain begins early mango harvest amid rising consumption

Spanish mango producers have begun the harvest earlier than usual due to high summer temperatures. While the heat has resulted in a projected production decrease of 20% to 30% compared to the previous campaign—due to a lower fruit load per tree—it has also increased the natural sugar content of the fruit.

Spain remains the primary mango producer in the European Union, with cultivation concentrated in the Axarquía region of Málaga and the Costa Tropical of Granada. According to the Ministry of Agriculture, approximately 6,150 hectares are currently dedicated to mango production, representing an increase of over one hundred hectares compared to 2025.

Consumer demand is also rising. Data from the Ministry of Agriculture's Food Consumption Panel indicates that mango consumption reached 49,857 tons last year, marking a 33.4% increase over the previous year.
