Spain boosts affordable housing with Catalonia projects and ICO loan scheme

The Generalitat de Catalunya awarded four lots from its first public land reserve call to the consortium of COPISA and Visoren, enabling the construction of 875 protected rental homes across twelve municipalities, including Cambrils, Girona and Tarragona. The projects are part of the regional Plan 50,000 Homes aimed at expanding the public rental stock.

Separately, the Instituto de Crédito Oficial will launch a €12.25 billion loan line on 1 September under the “España Crece” fund. The financing is split between €6.25 billion for promotion and €6 billion for tenancy and rental management, with the goal of mobilising up to €23 billion to deliver about 15 000 affordable homes each year. Loans carry conditions such as permanent protection of the units and rent caps of €9 per square metre.
