Spain confronts rising addiction challenges across drugs and video gaming

The historic association Érguete in Galicia warned that drug trafficking remains strong and that an aging generation of addicts is facing total abandonment. They highlighted a "triple condemnation" – loss of parental support, homelessness and a lack of specialised care facilities – and called for urgent investment in prevention and treatment, quoting: "El narcotráfico es más fuerte cuando es invisible."

In a separate case, Pilar, a Spanish mother, described her son's dependence on video games, stating it must be treated "like a problem that lasts a lifetime." She credited the Unidad de Adicciones Comportamentales for providing professional help and stressed the need for an integrated approach that addresses emotional and psychological aspects of behavioural addiction.
