Spain considers sustainability regulations for data centers

In Spain, the environmental organization Ecologistas en Acción is calling for participation in the revision of a government decree aimed at regulating the data center industry. The proposed decree seeks to establish sustainability criteria, including requirements for renewable electricity use and water efficiency.

Ecologistas en Acción has expressed concern regarding pressure from SpainDC, the Spanish association of data center developers. The group noted that SpainDC has reportedly threatened to withdraw investments and seek compensation if the regulations are implemented. The environmental group has also voiced apprehension regarding potential government efforts to ease these requirements or create technical negotiation tables that exclude citizen participation.
