Spain consumer credit usage for vacations rises to 16.3%
Consumer credit usage in Spain is shifting from traditional purposes, such as purchasing durable goods or covering unforeseen expenses, toward financing leisure and travel. According to the VIII Consumer Loan Barometer from the Association of Financial Users (Asufin), loans specifically intended for vacations and leisure have risen to 16.3%. This represents a significant increase from 9.9% in 2023 and 12.2% in 2024.
Experts note that this trend highlights a transformation in consumer financial habits. Yogi Thadhani, Country Manager of Prestalo in Spain, emphasized the importance of consumers understanding the real cost of financing before making decisions.
Regarding the economic context, data from the Bank of Spain indicates that the average interest rate for new consumer credit operations stood at 6.84% in June 2026, remaining relatively stable compared to the previous month.
