Spain summer tourism spending
Entities: TheFork · Organització de Consumidors i Usuaris (OCU) · Spain · Eurostat · Hotel industry
Overview
Spanish summer tourism spending has kept rising while household concerns about security have intensified. An Oney study in early July 2025 showed 95% of households planned a holiday, budgeting €1,389 for an 11‑day trip. By late July, OCU data placed the average beach‑holiday cost at €1,502, with hotels preferred by 35% of families and 32.2% of Spaniards unable to afford any vacation. Hotel room prices have more than doubled since 2016, pushing overall family holiday spending to the €1,500 level and prompting many to shorten trips or redirect funds to home improvements. Domestic travel remains dominant—85% plan trips inside Spain—and restaurant budgets stay strong, with 88% intending to keep or increase dining‑out spending.
A 2026 Aladinia survey confirms the upward trend, reporting an average spend of €1,130 per person for August vacations, 85% of respondents travelling within Spain and nearly half of the budget (47%) earmarked for accommodation and restaurant meals. TheFork’s poll echoed the earlier restaurant‑budget strength, with 88% planning to maintain or raise dining spend and 62% combining meals out with lodging.
Security worries have grown in parallel. Verisure España warned of a 34% rise in burglary probability during the holiday period, 94% of the population now deem security very important, and 86.7% of households already employ protective measures. The combined pressure of higher travel costs and heightened burglary risk continues to shape Spanish household budgeting and consumer‑protection behaviour.
