Spain cuts Atlantic Corridor rail investment in Galicia by half

Public railway operators Adif and Adif Alta Velocidad reduced their 2025 spending on Galicia's Atlantic Corridor to €106.1 million, down from €204 million the previous year – a 48 % cut that slows progress toward the basic network expected by 2030. Of the total, €69.7 million was spent by Adif and €36.4 million by the high‑speed division, leaving €56.8 million of planned funds unexecuted.

At the same time, the Northwest Atlantic Corridor project is being launched to speed up trans‑border rail and logistics integration between Galicia, Castile and León and northern Portugal. Co‑funded by the Interreg VI‑A Spain‑Portugal programme, the initiative will be presented in Santiago de Compostela and aims to coordinate investments, improve intermodal freight connections, and create a joint governance structure for the corridor.
