Spain distributes free certified glasses for August 12 solar eclipse
The Catalan government will set up 23 official observation points in 18 municipalities and hand out 150,000 certified eclipse glasses to ensure safe viewing of the total solar eclipse on 12 August. A nationwide campaign led by the Ministry of Science, Innovation and Universities and the ONCE will distribute two million certified glasses across Spain, with 1.7 million supplied by the ONCE and the remainder by the Spanish Foundation for Science and Technology.
In the town of Cabezuela (Segovia), the municipal council distributed about 500 free certified glasses at the local library, supported by the provincial government. The initiative attracted many residents and boosted tourism, with rural houses reporting a surge in bookings ahead of the eclipse.
