Spain electricity wholesale prices expected to drop slightly on Thursday

Electricity wholesale prices in Spain are expected to see a slight decrease on Thursday, September 3, with an average price of 155.99 euros per megawatt hour (MWh), down 2.45% from the previous day's average of 159.91 euros/MWh.

Despite the overall decline, significant price volatility remains throughout the day. Prices are expected to fluctuate between a minimum of 27 euros/MWh and a maximum approaching 300 euros/MWh. The most economical period for electricity consumption is projected to be between 14:00 and 15:00, when prices reach approximately 31.64 euros/MWh. Conversely, costs rise sharply in the evening, with peak prices occurring between 21:00 and 22:00.

These wholesale market rates serve as a reference for consumers under the regulated PVPC tariff, though final domestic bills include additional regulated costs. Factors influencing these market fluctuations include international gas prices and the cost of carbon dioxide (CO2) emission rights.
