Spain enhances safety on El Caminito del Rey and Alcalá de Henares walkways
The El Caminito del Rey tourist trail in the Málaga province has opened a new hanging bridge, the longest in Spain, that lowers temperatures along the final section by up to 11.4 °C and removes a series of stairs and about 30 m of elevation. The redesign improves comfort, reduces heat‑related fatigue, and speeds emergency evacuations, especially for older visitors, children and people with reduced mobility.
In Alcalá de Henares, the municipal government has replaced a deteriorated wooden staircase at the main entrance to the city’s fairgrounds with a concrete structure and new railings. The €10,000 work, overseen by councilor Antonio Saldaña, will close the access for two to three weeks but will provide a more durable, safer route for pedestrians ahead of the 2026 fairs and festivals.
