Spain establishes framework for professional driver early retirement

Spain has established a regulatory framework to address the physical and mental toll on professional drivers through the potential for early retirement. Following negotiations between industry associations, unions, and the public administration, Royal Decree 402/2025 was approved.

The decree outlines the procedure for certain groups to request retirement age reduction coefficients, citing evidence that aging drivers can increase road safety risks. However, early retirement for professional drivers is not automatic; effective application requires completing a formal process and the approval of a specific royal decree.
