Spain expands accessible beach zones for people with reduced mobility

The municipality of Cambrils on the Costa Daurada has installed a new accessible bathing zone on La Llosa beach. The platform, costing about €60,500, includes twenty shaded seats, steel‑handrails and safety buoys, allowing people with reduced mobility to enter the water independently. Mayor Oliver Klein said the project aims to make Cambrils a reference for inclusive public spaces.

In Huelva, the "Un Baño sin Barreras" assisted‑bath program returns to Nuevo Portil beach in Cartaya. Launched by the Huelva and Cartaya councils together with the Red Cross, the service provides amphibious chairs, volunteer support and adapted transport for up to 300 users each summer. Mayor Pilar Miranda highlighted the initiative as a model of cooperation, while Red Cross Huelva president Patricia Mauri emphasized its role in turning extraordinary experiences into everyday reality.
