Spanish beach accessibility projects

In July 2026 Spain’s coastal municipalities expanded beach access for people with reduced mobility. Cambrils opened an accessible bathing zone on La Llosa beach, installing a €60,500 platform with steel hand‑rails, safety buoys and twenty shaded seats, allowing users to enter the water independently. Mayor Oliver Klein said the town aims to become a benchmark for inclusive public spaces.

Castellón’s tourism board and city council completed upgrades at Pinar, Gurugú and Serradal beaches, adding flexi‑boardwalks that reach almost to the water’s edge, amphibious chairs for adults and children, adapted floats, amphibious crutches and additional shade tents. Permanent adapted restrooms replaced provisional facilities, and wider parking spaces with ramps and pedestrian crossings on Avenida Ferrandis Salvador improve access from the bike lane. Inclusive activities run on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 10 a.m. until 10 August, reflecting councillor Arantxa Miralles’s pledge to remove barriers.

Further north, the Huelva and Cartaya councils revived the "Un Baño sin Barreras" assisted‑bath program at Nuevo Portil beach, partnering with the Red Cross to provide amphibious chairs, volunteer support and adapted transport for up to 300 users each summer. Mayors Pilar Miranda and Patricia Mauri highlighted the initiative as a model of cooperation that turns extraordinary experiences into everyday reality.
