Spain expands battery storage with solar microgrid at Teide National Park and new projects in Los Barrios

The Canary Islands' Teide National Park has installed a photovoltaic microgrid with battery storage to power public buildings between El Portillo Alto and El Portillo Bajo. The isolated system, funded with nearly €500,000 from Next Generation EU funds and built by the public company Tragsa, provides 24‑hour clean electricity, eliminating the need for diesel generators. The park's ecological transition minister, Mariano Hernández Zapata, highlighted the project as part of a broader push to introduce renewable solutions in protected natural areas.

In Andalusia, energy firm Coagener completed the environmental authorisations for three battery‑storage projects—Teleiro, Beliche and Ingrina—located in the Palmones industrial zone of Los Barrios. Each plant has a 5 MW capacity, together delivering 15 MW of storage, with investments of €5.1 million for Teleiro and Ingrina and €3.5 million for Beliche. Endesa has granted grid‑connection permits, and the projects are now awaiting construction timelines.
