Spain expands MIR residency slots as 30 new doctors begin training in Segovia

The Spanish Ministry of Health plans to allocate 9,676 residency positions for the 2027 MIR call, a 27 % rise since 2019 and 400 more vacancies than the previous round. The increase continues a seven‑year upward trend aimed at addressing staffing shortfalls in regional health services.

In Segovia, the local medical college welcomed about 30 new internal residents who will train in specialties such as Oncology, Pulmonology, Emergency Medicine and a newly created discipline. The ceremony featured college president Graciliano Estrada, training vocal Francisco Ubet and health‑services manager Luis José Gómez de Montes, underscoring the role of these residents in strengthening the provincial health system.
