Spain expands pet-friendly beaches and free veterinary services

Spanish municipalities are enhancing facilities and services for pet owners. In the Canary Islands, Gran Canaria’s Bocabarranco beach and Tenerife’s Güímar waterfront have been designated as officially authorized dog‑beach zones, offering dedicated areas, waste bins and washing stations. Similar efforts are underway on the mainland, with locations such as Camposoto in Cádiz and Moncofa in Valencia accommodating canine visitors.

At the same time, local governments are organising free mobile campaigns offering rabies vaccinations and no‑cost sterilisation for dogs and cats. The initiatives aim to control pet populations, prevent zoonotic diseases and reduce abandonment, providing on‑site veterinary care, deworming and post‑operative support for residents across various neighbourhoods.
