Spain expands public early childhood education with new schools

New public early childhood education facilities are opening in Spain, funded significantly by European Union recovery funds.

In Aldeanueva de Ebro, La Rioja, a new nursery school with 74 places has been inaugurated. The project, costing 2.8 million euros, was financed by the Spanish Government through the Recovery and Resilience Mechanism. The facility includes five units catering to children aged 0 to 3 and covers over 1,000 square meters.

In Talavera de la Reina, Toledo, the “Pequeños exploradores” nursery school is set to open for the 2026-2027 school year. This project, a collaboration between the Government of Castilla-La Mancha and the local City Council, adds 41 public places for children aged 0 to 3. The investment of 617,088 euros is 85% funded by the regional government via Next Generation EU funds. This expansion brings the total number of public places for this age group in the city to 330.
