Spain expands tight housing market zones and adds 323 public homes in Mallorca

The Catalan Department of Territory, Housing and Ecological Transition confirmed that Cerdanyola del Vallès and 117 other municipalities will remain on the list of zones with a tight residential market (ZMRT) for another year. The list now covers 72.9% of Catalonia's population, with the total number of people living in tight‑market municipalities falling to about 6.9 million, down from 7.3 million. The review also identified 53 additional municipalities meeting the criteria for market tension.

In the Balearic Islands, the regional government announced a new public‑housing programme that will deliver 323 Habitatges de Protecció Oficial (HPO) near Palma's Velodrome. Applicants must have at least 15 years of legal residence in the islands. The project, signed by President Marga Prohens and Mallorca Council President Llorenç Galmés, involves a land grant of more than 33,000 m² and an investment of €3.4 million, plus 35 protected homes, a 400 m² music rehearsal space, and a 3,000 m² plot for future island facilities.
