IMSS rolls out major hospital expansion across Mexico for millions of residents

The Mexican Institute of Social Security (IMSS) announced a large‑scale program to add 21 new hospitals and upgrade existing facilities nationwide. In the State of Mexico, the federal government will allocate 3.696 billion pesos to rescue and complete three hospitals in Chicoloapan, Ecatepec and Chimalhuacán, benefiting more than 1.7 million people. The Chicoloapan General Sub‑zone Hospital will open with 57 beds and ten specialties by December 2027; the Ecatepec Pediatric Oncology Hospital will begin construction in October with 89 beds and advanced radiotherapy equipment; the Chimalhuacán Regional General Hospital will start work in October and target 535 beds for over 317 000 residents.

Additional projects include the near‑completion of a new General Hospital in Tampico and the expected opening of the Yecapixtla General Hospital in Morelos in August 2027, after private‑sector water donations cleared technical delays. The overall plan aims to address historic gaps in health services, expand specialized care, and improve medical infrastructure for tens of millions of Mexicans.
