Rubió forest fire in Catalonia reaches 47 hectares

A forest fire that ignited near the Can Maçana hermitage on the border of Rubió (Anoia) and Castellfollit del Boix (Bages) spread to about 47 hectares of woodland. The Catalan fire service deployed more than 50 ground crews, 14 aerial units and a ministry aircraft, assisted by local forest‑defence groups and farmers, to contain the blaze. No inhabited areas were directly threatened, and the fire was declared stabilized by the early hours of the following day.

During the same period, other major wildfires burned across Spain. In Galicia, two separate ignitions in Vimianzo and Laxe merged into a single fire that consumed 228.6 hectares before being extinguished. On the island of Eivissa, a fire in the ses Feixes zone affected roughly one hectare and was controlled after aerial support and ground crews intervened. The week also saw the containment of fires in Aiguamúrcia, Camarasa and other Catalan municipalities.

High temperatures, low humidity and dry vegetation have kept the national fire risk at a very high level, prompting authorities to maintain heightened alert, monitor perimeters of recent burns, and urge the public to avoid activities that could spark new ignitions.
