Spain faces political turbulence as PSOE critics demand congress and PNV warns of budget deadlock
A faction of PSOE members, organized under the platform ReactivaPSOE, said they have representation inside the party’s Federal Committee meeting on June 27 and will voice opposition to the current leadership. They are calling for an extraordinary congress, open primaries, the resignation of the Federal Executive, and a general election before the end of the year, citing corruption cases and what they describe as a "catastrophic" situation.
At the same time, the Basque Nationalist Party (PNV) spokesman Aitor Esteban pressed Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez to approve the state budget before October, warning that the legislature cannot continue beyond 2026 without it. Esteban warned of a “paralysis” in the Congress and hinted that a snap election could become inevitable if the budget stalemate is not resolved. Both groups criticize the current government’s handling of parliamentary affairs and signal heightened political tension in Spain.
