Spain fines drivers up to €400 for illegal car sunshades and tow balls
The Dirección General de Tráfico (DGT) warned that car sunshades that obstruct the driver’s view can attract a €200 fine under the General Traffic Regulations. The agency emphasized that any accessory that compromises visibility, even if seemingly harmless, may be penalised.
Installation of a towing ball (bola de remolque) also requires formal approval. The device is considered a vehicle modification; it must be fitted by an authorised workshop, receive a certification, and be registered with the ITV within 15 days. Failure to comply can result in fines of up to €400.
