Global agricultural reports show sunflower growth and citrus recovery

Agricultural reports indicate varying trends across different sectors. In Argentina, the sunflower industry is experiencing significant growth, with planting intentions for the 2026/27 campaign reaching 3 million hectares, a 5.3% increase. Industrial crushing activity also rose, with a 25.4% increase in accumulated crushing between January and July compared to the previous year.

In Spain, the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food (MAPA) projects a citrus production of approximately 5.74 million tons for the 2026/27 campaign. This represents a 1.1% increase over the previous season, though it remains 4.2% below the five-year average. While favorable water conditions aided the start of the season, high summer temperatures caused significant fruit drop in oranges and clementines.

In West Africa, FAO data shows the region produced 8.7 million tons of dessert bananas in 2024. Nigeria leads in volume with an annual average of 6.69 million tons primarily for domestic consumption, while Côte d'Ivoire serves as a major exporter with 539,000 tons annually.
