Spain funds €12.5 million road repairs in Segovia and Asturias
The Spanish Ministry of Transport and Mobility has awarded a €8.2 million contract to overhaul the surface and structure of the N‑603 highway between El Espinar and Hontoria in the province of Segovia. The work will replace joints, waterproof boards and repaint road markings, and will incorporate recycled asphalt mixes to lower the carbon footprint. The project is part of a €1.629 billion extraordinary program to improve the state road network.
A separate €4.3 million tender was announced for a six‑kilometre stretch of the Autovía del Cantábrico (A‑8) between Barres (Castropol) and Tapia de Casariego in western Asturias. Officials and local leaders welcomed the investment as necessary for safety and regional commerce, while urging that additional sections receive funding to address widespread potholes and deformations.
Both contracts aim to enhance road safety, generate construction jobs and support the local economies of the affected regions.
