Spain funds new water‑pollution control projects in Altafulla and Balearic farms

The municipality of Altafulla in Catalonia has installed retention nets in two points of its storm‑water system to filter solid waste, including plastics, before it reaches the Mediterranean Sea or the Gaià River. The €30,000 installation was fully financed by EU Next Generation funds and aims to improve water quality in coastal and natural areas.

Separately, the Balearic Islands government approved a €300,000 aid scheme for private agricultural and livestock holdings to clean and condition torrents that cross their land. Managed by the Directorate General of Water Resources, the program supports activities such as debris removal, invasive‑species clearance, re‑vegetation and stone‑margin reconstruction, with grants starting at €5,000 and applications accepted until 31 July 2026. Both initiatives seek to protect the public hydraulic domain and reduce environmental degradation from runoff and erosion.
