Spain Government plans social welfare reforms via royal decree
The Spanish government is preparing a royal decree to implement several social welfare measures before the upcoming elections on November 29. One primary measure involves recognizing widowhood pensions for unregistered couples who have children in common.
Other proposed measures within the decree include allowing employees on long-term sick leave due to cancer to reintegrate progressively into their jobs after being cleared by doctors. Additionally, the government is considering allowing both parents of a seriously ill child to simultaneously receive public benefits.
The Ministry of Inclusion and Social Security has been negotiating these pension and temporary disability measures with employers and unions for over a year. The government aims to present these measures to the Council of Ministers as part of a final push of social policy before the elections.
