Spain grants La Séptima digital TV license, channel to launch Nov 5
The Spanish government has officially awarded a digital terrestrial television (DTT) licence to Servicios Integrados Entrerenimiento Televisivo, SL, creating a new nationwide news channel called La Séptima. The licence, published in the Boletín Oficial del Estado on 6 June after cabinet approval on 26 May, allocates a high‑definition slot in the MPE5 multiplex made available by the 2025 technical plan.
La Séptima will broadcast live news around the clock from its launch on 5 November. Its visual identity features a red logo inspired by early designs of La Sexta, and the channel pledges balanced coverage, avoiding extreme partisan positions. Producer José Miguel Contreras said the service will be “unique, very good, very updated, very modern” and will operate from multiple locations across Spain to decentralise reporting.
The channel aims to compete directly with existing generalist broadcasters Cuatro and La Sexta, offering constant live coverage of national and international events and a multiplatform presence.
