Spain sees record hotel prices and rising pension averages
Spain is experiencing significant shifts in its service and social sectors. Hotel prices reached a record high in August, averaging 166.90 euros per occupied room per night. This represents a 67 percent increase compared to ten years ago, outpacing general inflation. Regional disparities are notable, with average rates in the Balearic Islands exceeding 230 euros, while Estepona on the Costa del Sol recorded the highest average at 418 euros per night.
Simultaneously, the average old-age pension in Spain has risen to 1,576.10 euros gross per month, a 4.5 percent increase from the previous year. The Spanish Social Security system distributed 14.5 billion euros to over 9.5 million pensioners in September. Data indicates a trend of Spaniards delaying retirement; the percentage of people voluntarily postponing their pensions rose to 11.5 percent, contributing to an increase in the average retirement age from 64.4 to 65.4 years since 2019.
