Spain housing prices drive rise in camper van living

Rising real estate prices in Spain are driving citizens toward alternative housing solutions, such as living in camper vans. A study by BBVA indicates that housing prices are expected to increase by approximately 12% this year, with a further projected rise of about 5.7% by 2027.

As traditional housing becomes less affordable, more individuals are converting vans into permanent residences to reduce living expenses. One such individual, Jesús, creator of the project ‘Viaja en tribu’, reported that living in a modified camper van has limited his monthly fixed costs to between 300 and 500 euros, primarily covering food and fuel while avoiding property taxes and utility bills.
