Spain implements poultry vaccination mandates following Newcastle disease outbreaks

Authorities in Spain are intensifying measures to combat Newcastle disease following recent outbreaks in the Castilla y León region. In Segovia, a new outbreak was confirmed in the municipality of Fuente el Olmo de Fuentidueña, affecting an organic fattening farm of 4,400 birds. Laboratory analysis confirmed the presence of a velogenic strain of the virus. In response, officials have implemented immediate immobilization of the farm, epidemiological investigations, and the destruction of carcasses and potentially contaminated materials.

In response to the epidemiological situation in neighboring regions, the government of Castilla-La Mancha has announced that vaccination against Newcastle disease will become mandatory for all poultry production and breeding farms starting October 1. This preventive measure aims to protect the regional poultry population from the virus spreading through adjacent territories.
