Overview

Spain is intensifying efforts to combat Newcastle disease in poultry populations following several outbreaks. In the Castilla y León region, a velogenic strain was confirmed at an organic broiler farm in Segovia affecting 4,400 birds. This incident, noted as the sixth in the province and the 30th in the region, prompted sanitary protocols including the destruction of carcasses and contaminated materials, as well as the establishment of restriction zones.

In response to these epidemiological developments, the regional administration of Castilla-La Mancha has mandated vaccination for all production and reproduction poultry farms, effective October 1, 2026.
