Spain issues summer health safety advisories for food and eclipse viewing
The Canary Islands health authority released detailed recommendations to prevent summer foodborne illnesses. Advice stresses frequent hand washing, protecting wounds, avoiding cross‑contamination, proper cooking temperatures (above 60 °C for meat, 65 °C when reheating), rapid refrigeration, and specific handling of eggs, seafood and raw vegetables. Vulnerable groups such as pregnant women, the elderly, children and immunocompromised persons are highlighted.
The Valencian regional government issued a ten‑point guide for safe observation of the solar eclipse on 12 August. Officials stress the exclusive use of certified eclipse glasses, warning that homemade filters do not protect eyes. Additional recommendations include staying hydrated, protecting against high temperatures, avoiding unnecessary travel during peak hours, and contacting emergency services (112) if needed. Information is being distributed through health centres, pharmacies and QR‑linked posters.
