Spain launches National Cancer Data Node to accelerate research

Spain's Ministry of Science, Innovation and Universities (MICIU), through the Carlos III Health Institute (ISCIII), has launched the Spanish National Cancer Data Node. This initiative is part of the IMPaCT Precision Medicine Infrastructure and is led by the National Cancer Research Center (CNIO-ISCIII), the Biomedical Research Network (CIBER-ISCIII), and the Barcelona Supercomputing Center (BSC-CNS).

The Node aims to facilitate the secure, coordinated, and efficient use of diverse data types, including clinical, epidemiological, genomic, multi-omic, imaging, pathological, and therapeutic response information. By establishing standards that favor interoperability, the project seeks to connect knowledge generated by various research centers, hospitals, and international projects to accelerate oncological research.

Minister of Science, Innovation and Universities Diana Morant stated that the initiative puts public science capabilities at the service of research to move toward more precise and personalized medicine in the fight against cancer.
