Spanish biomedical and cancer research advancements

Overview

Spain has introduced new technological and infrastructural advancements to support biomedical and oncological research.

Initially, the National Center for Genomic Analysis (CNAG) implemented a 3D spatial transcriptomics platform. This technology allows researchers to study gene activity while preserving the three-dimensional organization of tissue, which is expected to aid in understanding tumor evolution and cellular behavior.

Following this, the Ministry of Science, Innovation and Universities, through the Carlos III Health Institute, launched the Spanish National Cancer Data Node. This initiative, part of the IMPaCT Precision Medicine Infrastructure, aims to facilitate the secure and coordinated use of diverse data types—including clinical, genomic, and imaging information—to accelerate research and move toward more personalized medicine.
