Spain launches new Cadiz sports pavilion project and upgrades Málaga's Martín Carpena arena

A 19‑year‑long effort in Cadiz moved forward on Monday as officials placed the first stone for the new Fernando Portillo sports pavilion. The €19.1 million project, overseen by Mayor Bruno García and provincial president Almudena Martínez del Junco, will provide seating for 2,105 spectators and accommodate multiple sports, with construction slated for 30 months and an expected opening in 2029.

In Málaga, the José María Martín Carpena arena began a major refurbishment funded by the city through Málaga Deporte y Eventos. The €2.66 million upgrade includes a new parquet floor for the main court, redesigned seating in green and purple, expanded auxiliary court space, and an increase in total capacity to roughly 11,000 spectators. Works are set to continue through the summer, with full completion aimed for the 2027 season, allowing the Unicaja basketball club to host larger events.
