Spain sports venue upgrades

In late July 2026 Spanish authorities accelerated major sports‑infrastructure projects in Andalusia. On 24 July, Cádiz City Council announced that construction of the €19.1 million Fernando Portillo sports pavilion would start on 27 July, with a 2,105‑seat arena, underground parking and commercial space, and a completion target of early 2029. The same release detailed a separate €202,595 contract to replace halogen‑metal lamps in the existing Ciudad de Cádiz complex with 74 DALI‑controlled LED luminaires, cutting the original lighting budget by roughly 31 %.

A day later, officials celebrated the placement of the first stone for the Cádiz pavilion, confirming the same budget, timeline and seating capacity. The ceremony also highlighted the involvement of Mayor Bruno García and provincial president Almudena Martínez del Junco. In parallel, Málaga’s José María Martín Carpena arena began a €2.66 million refurbishment, adding a new parquet floor, redesigned seating and expanded auxiliary courts, with works slated to finish by the 2027 season for the Unicaja basketball club.

Together, the snapshots show a coordinated push by Spanish municipal bodies to modernise regional sports facilities, combining new construction in Cádiz with a major arena upgrade in Málaga, all slated for completion within the next few years.
