Spain launches public housing allocations in Ferrol and Girona

The Galician regional housing authority (Instituto Galego da Vivenda e Solo) will hold a lottery on 11 September to allocate 48 newly built public rental apartments in the O Bertón neighbourhood of Ferrol. The units, ranging from two to four bedrooms and including two adapted homes for people with reduced mobility, will be offered under seven‑year rental contracts. Forty percent of the apartments are reserved for residents under 36 years old, and applicants must be registered in the local housing demand register, reside or work in Ferrol, and meet income criteria.

In Catalonia, the Girona City Council has added two municipal plots to the public land reserve to enable the construction of 79 new protected‑housing units for affordable rent. The development, overseen by the regional government, will deliver 54 apartments in the Avellaneda district and 25 in the Pla de Palau‑Sant Pau area. Deputy Mayor and Urban Planning Councilor Sergi Font Domènech highlighted the initiative as part of the city’s “Misión Vivienda” to increase affordable rental housing for residents.
