Spain leads Europe in organic farming area

Spain leads Europe in organic farming surface area, though domestic consumption remains a challenge as the region works toward the European Union's goal of 25% organic land use by 2030.

During the fifth annual European Organic Production Day, held on September 23 to coincide with the autumn equinox, the benefits of organic agriculture were highlighted, including reduced reliance on chemical fertilizers, pesticides, and antimicrobials. The initiative, launched in 2021 by the European Parliament, Commission, and Council, aims to promote sustainable and equitable food systems.

As part of the annual EU Organic Farming Awards, Spanish finalists include Cantero de Letur and Pla de Manlleu, recognized for their contributions to the sector.
