Spain mobilises public funds for reconstruction after Almería wildfire
Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez visited the fire‑hit area of Los Gallardos in Almería on 13 July 2026. He announced that the government will deploy all state resources required to fight the blaze and will allocate public funds for the reconstruction of the damaged zones.
Sánchez lamented the death of 13 residents, offered condolences to the families, and praised the emergency crews for risking their lives. He called for cooperation among municipalities, provincial councils, the Andalusian government and the national administration, stressing the need for a unified response to climate‑driven emergencies. The prime minister also noted that Spain accounts for one‑third of the area burned in Europe last year and reiterated his proposal for a nationwide climate‑emergency agreement.
The announcement aims to support affected households, restore infrastructure, and strengthen preventative measures against future wildfires.
