Spain's Health Ministry launches 441 extra specialist training positions

The Spanish Ministry of Health has issued an extraordinary call for 441 additional specialist training (FSE) slots for 2025‑26, reallocating unfilled places from the regular selection round. The majority (433) are being re‑offered because the originally assigned candidates did not take up their posts, with the remaining eight arising from formal resignations. The extra allocation focuses on Medicine (312 spots) and Nursing (121 spots), with Medicine Family and Community accounting for 240 of the new positions. Applications are accepted electronically from 16 June to 18 June 2026, with allocations announced on 18 June and start dates set for 30 June 2026.

Separately, a significant number of vacancies have emerged in Andalusia after many candidates withdrew from their MIR (resident physician) placements. Seventy‑five positions—63 for physicians and 12 for nurses—were left empty, 54 of which are in Medicine Family and Community, representing 12 % of the regional candidates who chose that specialty. This makes Andalusia the second Spanish autonomous community with the most vacant MIR spots, highlighting ongoing challenges in attracting specialists to primary‑care roles.

Both the national extra‑allocation and the regional withdrawals illustrate persistent shortfalls in filling specialist training posts across Spain’s health system.
