Spain orders temporary forest road closures for August solar eclipse
The Government of Navarra announced an exceptional ban on motorised vehicles, including electric cars, on forest tracks and rural roads in non‑urbanised land from 00:00 UTC on 12 August until 07:00 UTC on 13 August. The measure aims to reduce the high risk of forest fires and to keep evacuation routes clear during the solar eclipse, when large crowds are expected in elevated natural areas.
The Junta de Comunidades de Castilla‑La Mancha also issued a list of forest tracks and access points that will be closed for the same period. Signage, barriers and control points will be installed, and the closures will be monitored by authorised personnel. Residents and visitors are urged to respect the restrictions, plan alternative routes in advance and follow official communications.
Both regional authorities stress that the actions are intended to protect public safety, preserve the natural environment and ensure that emergency services can operate without obstruction during the astronomical event.
