Spain pet population reaches over 30 million

Recent data from ANFAAC indicates that there are now more than 30 million pets in Spain, a significant increase from approximately eight million a decade ago. Currently, 61% of Spanish households live with companion animals.

Dogs remain the most common pet in the country, with 7,562,893 registered specimens, accounting for nearly half of the total pet census. Notably, the number of dogs in Spain now exceeds the number of children under the age of 12.

Cats hold the second position with 5.61 million registered animals, representing about 37% of the total. The feline population has seen a rapid increase, with over one million cats added to Spanish households in just four years, a growth rate that doubles that of dogs during the same period.
